What’s happening?

The blog looks a little neglected right now, but that’s not because I’m not doing anything…far from it!

I’ve been a busy stills photographer over the last month working on several short films – three graduation pieces with the amazing students over at National Film and Television School and one with Anshu Poddar of London Film School. All projects have been shot on film – you know that weird flexible plastic stuff they put in cameras of old?

Shooting on digital along side of of film is great as it gives me more opportunity than usual to assist the Director of Photography in getting immediate feedback on how lighting set ups will be immortalised on their valuable film stock before the shot is made. What I do is match the intended exposure of the motion camera and white balance settings and the Director of Photography can see what they’re likely to get.

I’m itching to post some stills from all of these projects, but just waiting on confirmation from the producers to share some samples.

Collaborating with Toh Shimazaki Architecture for the London Academy of Art

I’m always open to working on different projects, and this time I answered the call of Daniel Berg to work with him and the amazing team of Toh Shimazaki Architecture running its Forum Mini at London’s prestigious Royal Academy of Art.

The Forum Mini is an architecture school for children. The program is created and run by architects and is a one day school opens the minds of children to architectural designing.

As part of its Annual Architecture Lecture and Programme, The Royal Academy of Arts invited Toh Shimazaki Architecture to run its Forum Mini in the Sackler Galleries. The day entailed throwing open the room to children and their families to create their own architectural openings or portals in the walls of the two rooms. It was a thrill to be a fly on the wall as the children and their families set to their projects. Here’s a selection of photos from the day.

I Rock – Season 1 wrap-up

It’s no secret that I was incredibly proud of working with David Fedirchuk (Producer) and Rob MacDonald (Director) of Mum’s Spaghetti on their drama/comedy series I Rock for the Australian Broadcasting Corporation’s ABC2 Television.

The awesome principal cast:

All 8 episodes of I Rock have now screened in Australia and by all reports were really well received. If you haven’t already you should check out the ABC’s I Rock website. There you’ll have the opportunity to check out all the additional content developed for the marketing of the series. My photos are featured throughout the website and now also on the packaging material for the DVD and Soundtrack that are available on through the ABC Shop.

Ladies and Gentlemen – A TV Pilot

Internet dating proves a little awkward for Chris (Stephen McLeod).

On Sunday, I spent a full day working on the set of Disclosure Productions’ television drama pilot “Ladies and Gentlemen”.

This project is being shot on a combination of Canon’s 5D Mark II and 7D video dSLRs and the team are creating some exceptional footage. The Director, Robin Schmidt has posted a selection of the dailies over on his Vimeo Page as well as some excellent blog material on his work at www.elskid.com

Dora – Independent Feature Film

I’ve just started working on an independent feature film project – Dora for 28 Films Ltd. Writer/Director Delia Antal plays Dora, a Romanian girl who makes her way to London to seek a better life.

This project is being filmed on location in Romania and in London’s prestigious Chelsea. I’m working with first unit for the London leg of the production.

Shooting commences: Camden Calling

I’ve now spent three days on the set of Camden Calling which is a TV sitcom scripted and directed by Sunnie Sidhu. It’s the story of a group of five twenty-somethings, living their lives in the famous London borough of Camden. There’s a talented cast and a script that has lots of laughs…I can’t wait to see the finished product!

Southside – a teaser for film funding

Over the last week I’ve been working on Southside. This project is produced by Urban Media Productions www.urbanmediaproductions.com, using a script developed by the team at Mellow9 Productions www.mellow9productions.co.uk.

Its a heady mix of London gang culture, Haitian voodoo and the lengths a mother will go to protect her child. The project is being pitched to potential investors at Cannes in 2010.
